The International Conference titled “Revival of the Great Silk Road in the Era of Power and Happiness: Deep roots and Current Opportunities” opened in Ashgabat. It has been organized by the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.

As the correspondent reports from Ashgabat, the forum brought together scientists from more than 20 countries, including the U.S., China, Italy, Germany, Japan, France, Turkey, Iran, Korea, Spain, Morocco, the CIS and other countries.

The opening ceremony was followed by a plenary session, in which the foreign participants — scientists from the U.S., Russia, Turkey, Poland and Germany made presentations.

There were also held four thematic sessions at the Academy of Sciences and its subsidiary Institutions such as the Institute of History, the Institute of Archeology and the Institute of Ethnography. The issues discussed at these sessions were grouped under the following topics: “Current Opportunities for Revival of the Great Silk Road”, “Main Directions of the Great Silk Road and Their Research”, “The Great Silk Road and Development of the Material Culture of the Turkmens”, “The Great Silk Road and Development of Spiritual Culture of the Turkmens”.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov sent a welcome message to the participants of the conference. In his message, the President of Turkmenistan noted that the place of the Great Silk Road in the world history is characterized not only by the economic categories, but also by the rich cultural, scientific and educational potential, the creative capacity of the peoples that lived at that time in the Eurasian continent, who formed a considerable part of the historical and cultural heritage of humanity.
